The holidays are definitely upon us…Target has their holiday decorations out and department stores are already running their holiday sales. For the direct sales industry, the holidays can be one of the busiest (if not THE busiest) times of the year for sales and customer communications. Be sure to make holiday shopping SO easy for your customers this year so they want to shop with you and refer you to their friends! Here are some of my favorite holiday sales tips, tricks, and ways that I provide my customers with an amazing holiday shopping experience!
This is such a simple yet effective way to ensure your customers and their gift recipients are satisfied with their purchases. Providing gift receipts to your customers is as simple as providing an extra copy of their receipt with prices and purchase information removed. As an Origami Owl Independent Designer, I do this by simply providing them a second order form/receipt with only the item numbers and descriptions completed. I keep a copy for myself attached to the original receipt and provide the other copy to the customer so they may pass it along with the gift. This will allow the recipient to have a copy of my contact information in case an issue arises or they would like to exchange an item. I’ve found sometimes with gifting lockets the recipient would prefer a different style or length chain, so this makes it easy for me to make an exchange when they weren’t the purchasing customer.
AFTER HOLIDAY BUCKS
What is better than shopping at the holidays? Being rewarded after the holidays of course! After holiday bucks are simply rewards you provide to your customers for their holiday purchases. My after holiday bucks run from Black Friday until my holiday cut-off date. For every $50.00 my customers spend with me during that time frame, I reward them with a $5.00 gift certificate that is redeemable in the month of January. This increases my per customer sale amount during the holiday season and allows me to keep in contact with my customers in the month of January. Even though I’m offering this “discount” I have found that customers coming back in January to redeem their after holiday bucks will usually spend more than the gift certificate amount, making it a win for my sales!
It’s easy to use our printable gift certificates for your after holiday bucks. Just download and print – don’t forget to add in something about only being able to redeem the gift certificate in the month of January! Independent Designers can download the holiday gift certificate templates in the O2 Academy in the back office!
HOLIDAY THEME PARTIES
The only thing more fun than a Jewelry Bar is a holiday themed Jewelry Bar! My favorite holiday theme is Ugly Christmas Sweater Jewelry Bar. With our new Limited Edition Ugly Christmas Sweater, you could create an entire Jewelry Bar centered around your guests wearing their ugly sweaters!
Here are a few more holiday themed Jewelry Bar ideas:
- Holiday Cookie Exchange Jewelry Bar
- Secret Santa Jewelry Bar
- A Gift for Me Jewelry Bar
- Mommy & Me Holiday Brunch
- Men Only Shopping Night
Something as simple as including a gift tag, dropping your Holly Jolly Take Out Box into a gift bag with tissue paper or offering to assemble a locket for a customer can really help you score customer service points! Origami Owl packaging is amazing on it’s own, but adding something additional to save your customers a little bit of time and money will really set you apart during the holiday season.
You can print these super cute gift tags to attach to your customer’s gifts this year.
BUNDLES OR PRE-MADE GIFTS
One of the best ways to make shopping easy and convenient for your customers is to create gift bundles and sets. This takes some of the guess work out of shopping for them and allows them to spend less time on the elements of a finished look and more time on choosing the personalized pieces.
I suggest creating 3-5 pre-made looks and offering those at Jewelry Bars and events. You will then be able to show your customers a finished look and provide them with a price up front. Any looks that I create I allow them to substitute any items and choose their own charms of course. I also always suggest an Inscriptions piece with every purchase to customize the look even more!
Also, pairing a locket with the coordinating earrings or a wrap bracelet with a few wrap bracelet accessories is an easy way to upsell your items and increase your sales. Displaying coordinating pieces on your Jewelry Bar table will allow the customer to see the many options available and let’s them see the wide assortment of matching pieces.
I know when I was little my favorite thing to do was curl up on the couch with a blanket and that year’s “Wish Book”. I would carefully browse each page and circle the most amazing toys and clothes that I hoped Santa would leave under the tree for me. Now that I’m older I realize that this same “wish” concept is just as fun for adults! Using a wish list to help your customers collect their thoughts and pass along a great gift idea to someone close to them is a value added service that you can incorporate into your business.
I offer Wish Lists to all of my customers. After the fill out their most desirable O2 items I ask for the phone or email of someone they would like me to pass that Wish List along to. Usually it’s a spouse, parent or sibling who is more than excited to receive a call or message from me. I make the process super easy by letting them know that “Sally filled out a Wish List with a lot of amazing items at a Jewelry Bar last week and I wanted to pass it along to you to help make your holiday shopping simple this year!”. Download the Wish List here!
OFFICE SHOPPING HOUR
Another one of my favorite services that I offer to my customers is an office shopping hour! With the permission of the office manager or owner, I set up a Jewelry Bar during the lunch hours of a local office building, doctor’s office, school, etc. I plan well in advance by supplying the office or hostess with flyers, TOMs and order forms ahead of time. Sometimes I even offer to bring in a light lunch for them to enjoy while they shop (think sandwich ring, chips & dip, tea). If I was invited by a specific person in the office I will make them the hostess for the Jewelry Bar and if it was a mutual invitation then I will raffle off the hostess rewards to everyone who purchased during the Jewelry Bar. This is a really great way to help the men in the office Christmas shop for wives, daughters, mothers, etc too!
Last but definitely not least is mobile shopping. Origami Owl has made the Mobile Jewelry Bar available for purchase to it’s designers and it’s probably one of the most useful business tools that they offer. The $45 cylinder shaped holder is the perfect size to throw into the car or take with you when traveling during the holiday season and it can hold a TON of product! I keep mine filled with the newest items and some Limited Edition holiday pieces at all times. This allows me to easily show potential customers some of our jewelry in person and sometimes even make a sale on the spot. Not only is the Mobile Jewelry Bar extremely cute, but it really catches the eye of passers-by, so take it with you to Starbucks or to the mall and just allow everyone to question what it is!
